Friday 24th May
5:00 GPS says one hour 18 minutes so 6:20 approximately!!
4:45 Just stopped for a toilet break at Blyth services on the A1. Will update time when we set off again!
Just got on the bus for the return journey...children singing Happy Birthday to Daniel!! The GPS predicts a journey of three and a half hours so arriving no earlier than 5:30!
Had a lovely time in the castle..we recreated a battle - the boys had shields and formed a defensive line while the girls had the swords and charged!!!!
We had a picnic in the castle grounds overlooking the beach and then had a relaxing half hour sketching the keep!
Not a sound from anyone last night!
They have been brilliant about staying in their rooms until 7:15 - to give us a chance for a quiet cup of tea!
At the moment, they’re packing and tidying their rooms! The award for the tidiest room goes to Emily P and Lauren! The award for best sleepers..... unbelievably.....all of them!!
And to be honest, they’ve been amazing in their rooms - following the rules and being very grown up!!
After breakfast we’ll finish packing and then head up to the Castle!! We’re aiming to leave around 2 and stop on the Humber bridge on the way back.
I’ll update you as soon as I can but we aiming for 5:00!! Singing Happy Birthday to Daniel!!!
Slightly later bedtime and lights out tonight as we’d been to Peasholm Park sketching the Japanese gardens. We came back and had a general knowledge quiz before bedtime!
Bed at 10.....lights out at 10:15, all quiet by 10:30.
Just about to have dinner! Came back to Scarborough and spent the afternoon on the beach! We paddled, built sandcastles, played tig, drew sand pictures, had an ice cream and bought more sweets! The people of Scarborough have been fabulous: we ordered 30 ice creams from a kiosk and the lovely man gave us 16 free donuts; the lady in the sweet shop gave the children 10% discount and then a free pair of sunglasses!!!
1:15 Coach to Robin Hood’s Bay and a very long walk down the hill to The Old Coastguard Station. Splitting into groups, we did the village trail, the coastguard station and the sweet shop. Most popular purchase-fishing nets!
The tide had turned by then so the children went paddling and explored the rock pools followed by a rather nice picnic lunch on the rocks!!
We managed the climb back up and are currently playing nicely together on the park!!
Thursday 23rd May
Quite possibly the quietest night I’ve ever had on residential!! Totally silent by the time the staff went to bed and not a peep through the night!! One or two were not keen to wake up when I went a-knocking at 7:15! I knew all the walking would wear them out!!
Today we’re heading to Robin Hoods Bay.....I’ll update you all later!!!
Wednesday 22nd May
The children left school at 8:00 am. Thank you to the parents who helped carry luggage to the coach.
There has been a travel delay with a diversion near Grantham so we expect the coach will arrive in York later than anticipated and we will let you know as soon as they arrive.
12:00 noon - the children have arrived safely in York.
15:11 Just got on the coach heading to Scarborough. We walked through York, had lunch in the Minster Gardens and then visited York Minster. Our next stop was Clifford’s Tower via The Shambles!! Mr Donnelly took some amazing photos which I’ll try to post later. To complete our circuit, we walked along the walls back to the coach park. According to the various Fitbits, approx 12,000 steps!! They’ll definitely sleep tonight!!!
10:30pm All quiet.....well mostly! Had a very busy day with lots and lots of walking...York was incredible but very busy! After the excitement of finding out which room they were in (all very happy!)we played in the park before dinner! Our hosts in the hotel have just said that in 14 years they’ve never had children who eat so well! After dinner, we decided to walk from North bay to South Bay and then back over the hill. I promised them that they could watch the sunset which was absolutely beautiful! Just posting a few photographs each day!
