Design and Technology
At Peakirk-cum-Glinton primary Academy we recognise that Design and Technology should provide children with a real life context for learning. Through the DT curriculum, children can explore and be inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles and food products with a real purpose.
Through Design and Technology, we encourage our pupils to become independent, creative problem solvers as individuals and as part of a team.
Design Technology teaching at Peakirk-cum-Glinton intends to provide
opportunities for the children to:
- Complete tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly
technological world build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding
and skills in order to design - Make high quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users, critique,
evaluate and test their own ideas and products and the work of others - Understand and apply the principles of nutrition within food preparation and
cooking - Develop their communication skills through design
- Broaden children’s horizons
- To open up the world beyond their immediate community
- To inspire children to want to further explore the wider world
