Year 2 - Eagle Owls

Welcome to Year 2- Class teacher - Miss Tsamtsakis

If you need to contact me, I will usually be available at the end of the day or you can email me at office@peakirk.peterborough.sch.uk

I am looking forward to working with you all.

Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays and on these days children can come to school in their PE kits.

Communication between school and home is of the highest importance to us.  We share some of our news and information via Class Dojo, where you can receive weekly updates and photos of our weekly activities straight to your phone.  For any help connecting and using the app, please see the link below or get in touch.

Curriculum Overview

 Home Learning

The following homework is the minimum weekly expectation to help your child's learning and progression in school. Most of these are easy to access platforms. Staff can monitor if children have logged on and how much time they have completed.

Spellings

We follow the Little Spelling program until Spring.  From Spring, your child will be tested on 15 spellings weekly. The first 10 are arranged by sound. There will be five that do not follow the pattern that are from the expected year group word lists (available to view on the school class webpage), or words that the class are finding tricky. The 10 words will be sent home and uploaded to the class webpage weekly.

Your child should practice both the 10 words and and the word lists by playing games on Spelling Shed for at least 10 minutes, three times per week. Your child's individual login has been sent home.

Tackling Tables - Addition and Subtraction

Your child has a login and we expect that they will play the games and/or complete their timed practice at least three times a week. Your child's login has been sent home.

Reading

We follow the Little Wandle reading programme until Spring and your child will bring home their reading book once per week.  From Spring, your child will start a program called Accelerated Reader and come home with a colour banded book. After completing their book, they will take a comprehension quiz in school. To progress to another book, they must read regularly and often complete the quiz. Progression and when your child changes their book will depend on the length of the book. Your child will not change their reading book until they have completed the quiz.

Children should be reading for 20 minutes each day and this will be monitored on Accelerated Reader. You can help your child prepare for the quiz by asking any of the suggested reader viper questions on the booklet sent home and published on the class webpage.
