Design and Technology Intent
At Peakirk-cum-Glinton school we recognise that Design and Technology should provide children with a real life context for learning. Through the DT curriculum, children can explore and be inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles and food products with a real purpose. Through design and technology we encourage our pupils to become independent, creative problem solvers as individuals and as part of a team.
Design Technology teaching at Peakirk-cum-Glinton intends to provide
opportunities for the children to:
·Complete tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly
technological world build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding
and skills in order to design
·Make high quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users, critique,
evaluate and test their own ideas and products and the work of others
·Understand and apply the principles of nutrition within food preparation and
cooking
·Develop their communication skills through design
·Broaden children’s horizons
·To open up the world beyond their immediate community
·To inspire children to want to further explore the wider world
